Banner Ads
Even though a page is not yet built up yet, it is a good idea for you to think of designing your banner ad. This would be a logo for your site, used in such programs as link exchange http://www.linkexchange.com.

If you go to that web site, and click on "Join Now", you will find all the instructions. The sooner you get this taken care of, the better.

You will have to take some time to think of what your banner ad should look like, and how your message best could be encapsulated into one graphic image. You can also create a GIF image that is animated, such that it "blinks" and shows two images or more alternating. That sometimes is annoying though, if not done right. But if you want people to surf to your site, www.linkexchange.com is one of the best ways to start, and it is totally FREE.

468x60 pixels is the standard banner ad size for the web.  Animated GIFs or JPGs can be used, but GIFs (animated or static) are the most widely accepted.

Counters & Trackers & URL Reminders
There are two counters that are quite good for tracking the number of visitors to your site, and information about them, such as their location in the world, keywords they used to get to your site, number of visitors per hour, day, week, or month.  eXTReMe Tracking is the best free tracking service for this, while Link Exchange is good for showing the number of visitors right on your page.  Using both is recommended.  Place the HTML (that these services provide you) at the bottom of your main page.  You can also place counters/trackers at the bottom of other pages within your site if you want to track specific pages.

URL Reminders are good if you want your visitors to be able to know when your page gets updated.  They enter their email into a form on your site and then whenever you make a change to your page, anyone who has registered on your page to be notified will receive an email.  NetMind is one of the best free tools for this.
